A Strategic Restoration For A Historic Landmark
Technique Roofing was honored to return to Family Baptist Church in Toledo, Ohio — a historic building we originally roofed in the late 1990s. After decades of dependable service, the roof had begun to show signs of age. Rather than pursuing a costly full replacement, church leadership reached out to us for a more strategic, preventative solution.
We recommended Duro-Shield silicone coating from Duro-Last — a system we’ve installed successfully on many commercial and institutional buildings. The coating preserved the building’s historical appearance, restored waterproofing performance, minimized cost and disruption to the congregation, and significantly extended the life of the roof without a full tear-off.

What We Delivered

Inspection & Evaluation
Assessed both roof sections and determined the insulation was still largely intact, with only minor compression in ponding areas — making restoration a viable path.

Targeted Insulation Repairs
Opened and repaired the few compromised areas by replacing insulation and improving drainage slopes before any coating was applied.

Surface Preparation
Cleaned and prepped the roof membrane for silicone application, including careful detail work around staggered and irregular wall lines.

Silicone Coating & Drainage
Applied Duro-Shield silicone coating across the entire surface for full coverage and reflectivity, and enhanced drainage in key low points to prevent ponding.
